Rediscovering Prayer

The Battle You Can’t Afford to Ignore

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
—2 Corinthians 10:4

This week I’ve asked a good friend of mine Jonathan Pokluda (JP) to share a prayer guide on the wild world of spiritual warfare. I think you’ll enjoy his words . . .

Have you ever considered that prayer is more than just talking to God—it’s waging war? The enemy would love for you to think prayer is passive, a quiet ritual before meals or bedtime. But Scripture tells us that when we pray, we engage in battle.

We don’t fight with human weapons—our words, our logic, or our strength. We fight with the power of God. When we pray, strongholds break. When we pray, chains fall. When we pray, the enemy flees. That’s why he works so hard to keep us from doing it.

You may not always see the battle, but you’ve felt it. The tension in your mind. The temptation that won’t go away. The exhaustion that keeps you from opening your Bible. The fear that creeps in at night. That’s spiritual warfare. And your weapon isn’t willpower—it’s prayer. (Eph. 6:18)

So, when you feel attacked—pray. When doubt whispers—pray. When you’re weary—pray. And when you don’t have the words, remember: the Spirit prays for you (Rom. 8:26).

Response

This week, I want to challenge you to pray with intention. Set aside a specific time each day, even just five minutes, to pray for protection, clarity, and boldness. When you feel overwhelmed, stop and pray instead of spiraling.

Ask yourself: What lies has the enemy been feeding me? What would change if I fought those lies with prayer instead of worry?

Closing Thoughts

The war has already been won, but the battle for our hearts and minds is ongoing. The enemy wants us distracted, discouraged, and disconnected from God. But prayer realigns us with truth, refocuses our eyes on Jesus, and reminds us who holds the victory.

Standing with you,
JP

P.S. Addison here again, I want to mention that JP wrote a powerful book Your Story Has a Villain. If this guide spoke to you, I suggest grabbing a copy.

The Power of Asking

Have you ever thought it strange that Jesus tells us not to waste words because our Father in heaven knows what we need before we ask (Matt. 6:7–8), but then a chapter later suggests we should ask, seek, and knock through prayer (Matt. 7:7)?
